Hopkins and Shindledecker of Greensboro, N.C., who finished (-24), had built a comfortable eight stroke lead going into the final round. And their -6 on Sunday was enough to stay ahead of the chase cards. Though team Fredrickson/Couch made a valiant effort with a -13 for the round, the hottest score for the two rounds at Canaan.

Qualifier helped prepare them

Going into USDGC Doubles, the team said they were feeling confident because of how they performed at their qualifier in Georgia (placed 2nd) which they said had tough competition and helped mentally prepare them for Rock Hill.

Besides USDGC Doubles, Hopkins and Shindledecker have also teamed up in the past for an event in Greensboro and local random draw doubles.

Another key to their win, the two said, was not taking themselves too seriously, but at the same time knowing when to rally when they needed to. A good example of this came after a bogey on Hole 11 of the final round when they knew things were getting a little too close for comfort with the chase card and they committed to finishing strong.

Big Thanks!

Thanks to all of the teams for participating in USDGC Doubles as well as all of the teams and tournament directors from the qualifiers across the nation. USDGC Doubles will return next year, so go ahead and get your team ready.
