US Title Winners Get Invites

There’s no better time to win any of the national disc golf titles than now. That’s because the 2016 winner of the US Amateur, US Masters, US Women’s Disc Golf Championships, and the Deaf Disc Golf National Championships earn invitations to this year’s USDGC.
“We are excited to extend invitations to these great US Champions that will make an already strong field even better,” said USDGC Event Director Jonathan Poole.Facebook cover web

Two of the four events have been determined with invites already sent out to US Amateur Disc Golf Champ Gavin Rathbun and Deaf Disc Golf National Champ Jeremy Farnsworth. It won’t be long before the other invites are decided. US Masters is right around the corner (Sept. 9-11), followed by the US Women’s Disc Golf Championships (Sept. 23-25).

For US Masters, only the masters division champ will earn an invite (The invite is not passed down if the winner is already USDGC qualified). And, for US Women, only the open women division earns the invite.

When US Am Champ Gavin Rathbun, 18, heard he was getting an invite, he said he instantly started planning his trip to Rock Hill, S.C., for his first USDGC.
“It’s a huge opportunity to go and play with the best players in the world, and it’s an experience not everyone gets to do. I feel extremely fortunate and lucky,” said Rathbun, who won the US Am Championship after a 1-hole playoff.
