The Dean’s Cup Invitational, hosted annually at the USDGC, returns for its third year featuring college disc golf teams from Augusta University, NC State, Liberty, and Oregon.
Dean’s Cup Begins Friday
As featured side action at the USDGC, the Dean’s Cup (Presented by College Disc Golf and Innova Disc Golf) consists of a two round, head-to-head match play event with the first round on Friday and the final round on Saturday (both taking place before USDGC play).
The Winthrop University Disc Golf Club annually serves as hosts and will welcome the participating teams as well as coordinate their stay throughout the week. The four teams that receive the honor to play are invited based on results from the previous College Disc Golf season.
The Teams Featured
The four teams invited include the latest National Champion, the latest Regular Season National Champion, and the two highest ranked teams in each super region. This year that is the Jaguars of Augusta University as the current National Champion, the Wolfpack of North Carolina State as the current Regular Season National Champion, the Flames of Liberty University as the highest ranked team in the East super region, and the Ducks of the University of Oregon as the highest ranked team in the West super region.
How it Will Go Down
The Dean’s Cup uses the same Team Doubles format (match play) as the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships and at many regular season events. On Friday, the National Champion Augusta Jaguars will play against the Oregon Ducks. The Regular Season National Champion North Carolina State Wolfpack will play against the Liberty Flamethrowers. The victors from Friday will play a match on Saturday, and their previous opponents will play against each other. The team that comes out on top after the two days will be awarded the Dean’s Cup.
