Pleasant Winthrop Gold conditions yielded equally pleasant scores after the USDGC Doubles round 1 on Friday. However, no team from either the pro or amateur division was able to take sole possession of the lead.
Atop the pro division are Jeremy Koling and Paul Ulibarri shooting a 51 (-14) during the best shot format. The two birdied the entire front nine holes, eagled hole 10, then birdied holes 11 and 12 to make them (-13) through 12 holes. They are tied with the Tennessee duo, 3-time US Champ Will Schusterick and Nathan Long, who only had five pars for the day.
Three strokes back are Horst/Hummel, and four other teams are tied at (-8).
Looking at the amateur division, four teams are tied for the lead at 58 (-7). They include the following teams: Carey/Macy, Richmond/Quick, Kyle/Fisher, and Zesch/Rankin.
After a round of the mostly open Winthrop Gold, both divisions now head to the heavily wooded Camp Canaan Riverbend Gold Course for rounds 2 and 3. Stay tuned to usdgc.com for more.
